Mr. Daniel Richner, President and Owner - M+R Spedag Group, the Swiss based forwarding conglomerate, has been part of the management of the company since 1982. He joined the group after completing his studies at Basel University and has since been the architect and driving force in growing the company to the renowned provider of worldwide logistics solutions that it has become today with offices in 5 continents.
The Asia success story took off in 1985 in Singapore and Hong Kong, where he spent 7 years to lay the foundation for what is today an organisation with 28 offices in all important markets of East Asia. Besides the building up of own offices, Daniel Richner always had the ambition to provide the group's customers and agents a worldwide network. In this endeavour he came to India the first time in the early nineties and appointed an agent under the management of Ramkumar Ramachandran. Both shared the view that emerging markets can only grow based on solid transport and logistics solutions, one focusing at the Greater China area and the other one at India. So it was only a matter of time until the two would to join forces.
In September 2010, PL Shipping & Logistics Pvt. Ltd., finally became part of the worldwide M+R Spedag Group. The merger is now fully complete and the new Indian subsidiary will change its name to M+R Logistics (India) Pvt. Ltd., from 1 April, 2011. This will come along with a changed logo, corporate design and group colours signifying a total integration - another milestone in the group's progress. M+R Spedag Group has in the process created for themselves a strong position in the fast growing Indian logistics industry with the takeover of the 350 people strong Indian entity.
"Mergers always pose a great challenge, as they involve all stake holders. Resistance to change is a factor that must not be underestimated. As both companies have been part of each others success for the last 10 years, there was already a strong degree of identification, resulting in a smooth integration" says Daniel Richner, owner of M+R Spedag Group.
Ramkumar Ramachandran, Managing Director and local partner of M+R Logistics (India) Pvt. Ltd. adds: "The two companies shared the common vision that a solid transportation infrastructure and dependable logistics services are a prerequisite for growth in any emerging market. We can create added value for the benefit of our customers, and in turn become part of growth itself". This holds true for East Asia where M+R has been operating for over 25 years already, as well as for India, where the former PL Shipping & Logistics is celebrating their 10th anniversary on 1 April 2011.
