ÉVRY, France, April 23 /PRNewswire/ --
Genopole(R) and the Epigenomics Project organise a two-week school
on biological complexity and modeling in the context of genomics, in
Evry, near Paris. The population of scientists who join this emerging
field is heterogeneous with respect to original background, to level
of interdisciplinary experience, and to knowledge of the field. This
School aims at covering the needs of this population, including
biologists, computer scientists, mathematicians, chemists and
physicists.
Thematic research school : April, 30 - May 4 : << Modelling
complex biological systems in the context of genomics >>
The post-genomic era is characterised by a deluge of molecular
data. The challenge is to make sense out of this information by
coming up with a new integrated picture of the cell which takes into
account that it is simultaneously an autocatalytic set, a network
with feedback characteristics, a multi-level self-organising system
adapted to the vagaries of an environment that can vary rapidly...
and so on. Taking on this challenge therefore also requires the
introduction of concepts unfamiliar to biologists, the formulation of
new hypotheses and their testing via simulations and wet experiments.
It requires specialists from across the sciences to learn each
other's language so as to collaborate effectively on defined
projects.
Advanced course : May, 7 - May, 11 : << Complexity of biological
networks >>
Various types of biological networks will be covered with some
methodological counterparts. The spirit of the School is very
interdisciplinary, with lectures in any single day covering a
diversity of viewpoints on a single, albeit wide-ranging, topic. The
goal is to bring the audience to top level in the above-defined field
of investigation. World-renowned specialists from the target field
deliver 36 hours of lectures and question / answer sessions.
Care is exercised to allow for ample informal discussions
between and among lecturers and participants.
GENOPOLE(R) is France's leading biopark dedicated to biotech &
genetics research. It brings together private and academic labs,
biotech companies and higher education facilities (the University of
Evry Val d'Essonne) on a 90,000-square meter site. With 23 research
labs on campus and a portfolio of over 62 biotech firms, therapeutic
innovation is a key concern for Genopole(R) stakeholders.
Genopole(R)'s objective is to promote research in genomics,
postgenomics and related sciences; reinforce technology transfer to
the industrial sector; develop high-level life science training &
education programs and, lastly, to create and nurture biotech
companies. www.genopole.fr
