UBS Wins Top Slot in Institutional Investor Magazine's All-Europe Research Team For The Fourth Year Running

New York (ots/PRNewswire)

UBS takes first place for the fourth
consecutive year in Institutional Investor's annual All-Europe
Research Team, the results of which were released today in the
magazine's February 2005 issue.
Every year, Institutional Investor magazine surveys investors in
European equities to find out which brokerage firm analysts did the
best job in a broad range of investment categories. In this year's
survey, Swiss banking giant UBS wins 36 team positions, more than any
other brokerage firm and up sharply from the 30 positions it won a
year ago. Deutsche Bank, with 31 team positions, climbs to second
place from fifth in 2004, and Merrill Lynch repeats in third, with 29
spots on this year's team. Smith Barney Citigroup falls from second
to fourth, winning 27 team positions, while Morgan Stanley rises one
place to No. 5, with 23 slots on this year's team. CSFB drops back
from a tie for third place in 2004 to sixth place this year, with 22
team positions.
Major institutional investors are scrutinizing their dealings with
brokerage firm research departments to pinpoint which analysts
provide them with in-depth information and profitable stock picks for
their commission pounds and euros - and which don't. "Fund managers
are holding analysts to a higher standard than ever before," says
Michael Carroll, Editor of Institutional Investor. "But they are also
making it clear that they place great value on insightful,
moneymaking ideas produced by research firms."
