Spirent Communications And Samsung Electronics Announce Interoperability Alliance For Broadband DSL Networks

Berlin (ots)

DSL WORLD FORUM - Spirent Communications, a wholly
owned business unit of Spirent plc (NYSE: SPM and LSE: SPT), and
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a leading provider of broadband
telecommunications equipment, today announced a joint
interoperability alliance for their Digital Subscriber Line (DSL)
solutions. The agreement is intended to help service providers
simplify DSL infrastructure installation and maintenance, as well as
speed their time to market for broadband services.
The agreement is aimed at achieving interoperability of key
components in Spirent's CenterOp(tm) for DSL solution family -
including its REACT(tm) remote test operations support system (OSS)
and CopperMax testing probes - with Samsung's Ace-MAP(tm), a
multi-service access platform integrating DSL access multiplexer
(DSLAM), next-generation digital loop carrier (NGDLC), and Access
Gateway functionality. Under this arrangement, Spirent's
CopperMax/RT(tm) probes will allow service providers to test their
broadband lines using the integrated test access provided by
Samsung's Ace-MAP, as well as through Spirent's own access devices.
The resulting solution not only offers a single approach for managing
service quality across a provider's DSL network, but assures
providers using products from either vendor of their capacity to
seamlessly interact with each other.
"Spirent is dedicated to working with leading network equipment
companies around the world to bring automated network monitoring and
analysis to next generation service providers," said Jim Schleckser,
president of Spirent Communications' Service Assurance division,
which produces the REACT OSS and CopperMax probes. "Partnering with
Samsung will also open opportunities for Spirent to assist service
provider customers in burgeoning new broadband markets across Asia
Pacific."
"Samsung's strong customer base in Korea - with the world's
highest DSL penetration rate - and proven DSL access technology
around the world has made Samsung the leader in these rapidly
developing markets," stated Dr. Young Cheol Oh, VP of Network Systems
. "We look forward to working with Spirent to expand our DSL
leadership into North America."
Under the first phase of this alliance, interoperability is
concentrated on Samsung's Ace-MAP, Spirent's CopperMax/RT, a
low-profile, full-featured test probe, and REACT. In subsequent
phases, the companies will confirm interoperability between the
Ace-MAP, REACT, and Spirent's CopperMax/iCon(tm), designed to provide
automated Internet Protocol (IP) validation on DSL installations.
Spirent's REACT OSS is widely accepted in the global public switched
telecommunications network, with more than 20,000 nodes already in
service in a variety of incumbent and competitive local exchange
carriers, interexchange carriers, and global providers.
