Corporate Social Responsibility - Orange commits to fight against domestic violence

Lausanne (ots)

Orange Communications SA, Lausanne, is to support
The Body Shop's "Stop domestic violence" campaign. For every used,
but still fully functional, mobile telephone handed into any of the
37 Orange points of sale, Orange will donate CHF 10 in favour of
women's shelters in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Used mobile phones
can also be handed into any of the 48 Body Shop outlets.
Orange is taking back all your old mobile phones to dispose of
them in an environmentally friendly way or recondition them for the
second-hand market for second use. Every time a fully functional
mobile phone, including charger and batteries, is handed in and a
subscription taken out or extended, the mobile user in question will
receive a credit of CHF 50. Defective mobile phones are also accepted
and will be disposed of by Orange free of charge.
Orange is now combining this trade-in offer with the "Stop
domestic violence" campaign conducted by The Body Shop. All mobile
users handing in a still fully functional mobile phone will receive a
CHF 50 credit in the form of a voucher. Furthermore, for every device
returned, Orange will donate CHF 10 in favour of The Body Shop's
campaign against domestic violence, regardless of whether the user is
extending or taking out a subscription with Orange for the first
time. The total funds raised in this initiative, which runs from 19th
July to the end of November 2004, will be donated in favour of the
"Umbrella organization for women's shelters in Switzerland and
Liechtenstein".
Orange is supporting the campaign against domestic violence as
part of its comprehensive Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
programme, which has been operational in Switzerland for three years.
In addition to this joint initiative with The Body Shop, the
partnership with the Swiss committee for Unicef forms the core of the
Orange CSR programme. The co-operation between Orange and Unicef
includes, among other things, the recently launched Orange Award for
the promotion of intercultural dialogue and implementation of various
projects in India, Guatemala, Iraq and Vietnam. The programme will
help markedly improve the lives of thousands of under-privileged
children and young people by giving them access to education.
