Orange relay race for Unicef - Five years of Orange Switzerland

Lausanne (ots)

Orange Communications SA, Lausanne, celebrated
its fifth birthday in Switzerland with a relay race in which 700
employees from all over Switzerland took part. Together, they covered
a total distance of 1,120 kilometres, raising more than CHF 10,000
for Unicef in the process.
This year, the Orange Group is celebrating a landmark birthday in
fourteen countries. Ten years ago, the Orange brand was launched in
the UK. Since then the company has become number one in many
countries worldwide and now has around 50 million customers. In order
to celebrate its rise to success, the Orange Group decided to
organise a relay race in favour of Unicef in the fourteen countries
concerned. The aim was to add up all the kilometres covered on foot
by employees in all Orange countries. Every employee had to cover a
distance of 1.6 kilometres. For every employee completing the run
successfully, the Orange Group will donate EUR 10 or approximately
CHF 15 to Unicef.
To mark the fifth anniversary of its entry into the Swiss mobile
telephony market, Orange therefore held a relay race in Bussigny,
Lausanne, Biel and Zurich on 2nd July 2004. A total of 700 employees
took part in the event and covered a distance of 1,120 kilometres.
Orange Switzerland thus raised more than CHF 10,000 in favour of
Unicef. This sum will be added to the funds raised by other countries
and donated to Unicef. The Orange Group reckons on collecting a total
of around CHF 500,000 to help support Unicef's education programmes.
A huge thank you party for Orange employees
Our employees have played a decisive role in the success of Orange
Switzerland. That's why we've organised another special birthday
celebration this year", announced Stefan Büschi, Vice President Human
Resources. In past years, Orange has organised similar birthday
parties for its staff, thereby creating an ideal opportunity for
people to meet outside the everyday work environment.
