Come and Meet the Principal Stakeholders of the EU Food and Drink Sector

Brussels (ots) - SOMMET ALIMENTAIRE EUROPÉEN European Food Summit BRUSSELS, 11-12 APRIL 2002 "Quality for a Confident Consumer" - It is under this banner that the next European Food Summit will take place at the Palais des Expositions in Brussels on 11 and 12 April 2002 under the aegis of the CIAA, the Confederation of the Food and Drink Industries of the EU. The Food and Drink Industry is the first industrial sector and one of the main employers and exporters in the European Union. How do the various actors, from the farm to the fork, assume their responsibilities in the field of safety ? Why does the European Food and Drink Industry have reason to be proud of its products ? How do our overseas neighbours tackle the challenge of quality ? How has the consumer's perception of quality evolved over recent years ? You will find the answer to these questions and to many others at the Sommet Alimentaire Européen (European Food Summit), the Conference and Exhibition of the European Food and Drink Industry. The theme of food quality will be developed during the Summit with high-level specialists representing the various links of the food chain. The CEOs of some of the biggest European food companies will detail the concrete measures put in place by the industry to guarantee quality. You will learn about the results of a survey carried out especially for the Summit about the evolution of attitudes and of behaviour of consumers in Europe. Amongst the numerous speakers will be Franz FISCHLER, European Commissioner for agriculture; David BYRNE, European Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, as well as Antony BURGMANS, CEO of Unilever; Peter BRABECK-LETMATHE, CEO of Nestlé; and Sir Richard GEORGE, Managing Director of WEETABIX. The Exhibition, alongside the conference, will illustrate concrete examples of solutions developed by suppliers of the Food and Drink Industry to control and guarantee safety and quality.
