Valora Retail to take on 24 outlets from
Cevanova AG
- Strong avec. brand to expand Valora´s market share
- Franchising system to be continued
- Product range focuses on freshness, enjoyment and convenience
Strong avec. brand to expand Valora´s market share As already stated
in the Group´s recently presented strategy plan, Valora is now
concentrating its efforts on generating sales growth in its
convenience store business. Under the terms of an agreement between
Valora and Migros signed yesterday, Cevanova, the two firms´
convenience store joint venture, will be dissolved with retroactive
effect from July 1, 2008. Subject to the necessary Competition
Commission approval of this agreement being granted, Valora will take
on a total of 24 Cevanova outlets, of which 20 are already in
operation, 2 will be opened later this year and 2 are at the planning
stage. On November 13, the 14th Valora-owned avec. unit will be
opened in Bonstetten. This will give Valora a sales network of 38
avec. convenience stores.
By the end of 2009, Valora intends to expand the number of avec.
shops to 100, thus significantly raising its profile in the
convenience store market. To achieve this ambitious objective, Valora
will re-configure existing outlets, establish new sites in
Switzerland and further expand its network through co-operation
agreements in and outside Switzerland. The expansion will target
public transport nodes, city-centre locations, filling stations and
selected sites in conurbation areas. The well-established position it
enjoys in Switzerland, Germany and Luxembourg provides Valora Retail
with both excellent market intelligence and good access to site
landlords and agents.
Franchising system to be continued In its additional new role as a
direct franchiser, Valora aims to continue making constructive use of
its business relationships with all parties concerned. The first
joint conference held on November 10 focused primarily on Valora´s
co-operation with franchisees. An active exchange of ideas took place
and the further development of the convenience store concept and the
future growth which Valora and its franchisees expect to achieve was
also discussed. As a small-outlet retail specialist which already
operates convenience retail formats of its own, Valora is well
acquainted with the convenience retail sector´s requirements with
regard to product range, locations, processes and supply chain
management, a wealth of experience from which franchisees have much
to gain.
Product range focuses on freshness, enjoyment and convenience The
current focal points of the avec. product range are constantly being
extended and enhanced. In the months to come, various new concept
building blocks will be tested at pilot sites, with those which meet
with success scheduled for market roll out during 2009. "Ready to
eat" and "ready to heat" ranges, both of which are now enjoying
growing popularity with consumers, will be deployed in the
beverages/juices, bakery, immediate consumption/coffee counter, fruit
& vegetables and salad areas. The objective is to attract customers
with a well-presented avec. concept, combining fresh, high-quality
food products with branded non-food lines.
