Frankfurt Airport's Know-how Celebrated in Sharjah: New Cooperation Agreement Signed

Frankfurt/Main, Germany (ots)

Twenty-five years ago today,
Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide and the Air
Transportation Authority of the Emirate of Sharjah (United Arab
Emirates) started an era of close cooperation that continues today.
Initially, Fraport AG advised the Emirate on the Persian Gulf about
the development of its Sharjah and Khor Fakkan airports. Later,
Frankfurt experts provided airport management, operational and
technical assistance.
Sharjah Airport (airport code = SHJ) has developed into an
international transportation hub, particularly for air cargo (ranking
35 worldwide in terms of air cargo tonnage, according to ACI
statistics for 2000). The 25th anniversary marking this successful
cooperation was celebrated in Sharjah by Sheikh Abdulla and a
Frankfurt delegation led by Dr. Wilhelm Bender, Fraport AG's Chairman
of the Executive Board. The ceremony was used as an occasion to sign
a follow-up contract.
Under this contract, both companies plan to offer their expertise
and services jointly at other airports in the Middle Eastern/Indian
region. Furthermore, Fraport AG will support Sharjah Airport in its
ongoing development to become an even more significant cargo
logistics center.
