BKW Energie AG

Lonza and BKW enter into partnership for energy procurement

Bern (ots)

Lonza AG in Visp has entered into a partnership with
BKW FMB Energy Ltd (BKW) in the field of energy logistics and
procurement management. Lonza plans to purchase its energy - around
500 GWh per year - on the free market in future, and has selected BKW
as its partner of preference.
BKW has contracted to support Lonza AG with its energy procurement
strategy and sustainably implement the related strategic and
operational procurement processes. As part of the partnership, BKW
will take over responsibility for Lonza's metered data and balance
group management and will draw up consumption forecasts. BKW will
also help Lonza to purchase electricity. This includes advising the
company on procurement decisions and providing the requisite market
information.
This partnership will allow Lonza to operate efficiently in the
liberalised Swiss electricity market and purchase energy at optimised
cost and risk conditions.
Lonza is one of the world's leading suppliers to the
pharmaceutical, healthcare and life sciences industries. Products and
services span its customers' needs from research to final product
manufacture. It is the global leader in the production and support of
active pharmaceutical ingredients both chemically as well as
biotechnologically. Biopharmaceuticals are one of the key growth

its roots here in south-western Switzerland, and this is where Lonza
operates its largest production as well as research and development
centre. Around 2,800 employees (of which approximately 10% are
non-Swiss) work at this location.
Lonza is headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, and is listed on the
SIX Swiss Exchange. In 2009 the company recorded sales of CHF 2.690
billion. For more information, visit www.lonza.com.
